Adventure Photography: Chief Products 'WK2 Nudge Bar'
Last week I got the chance to work with Bill from Chief Products. The purpose for the shoot was to create stunning, marketable, outdoor photos of the newly released Chief Products ‘WK2 Nudge Bar’ for the Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Our photography adventure spanned over two and a half days. It all started packing up the Jeep with food, camping and photography equipment and setting off on the 1 hour drive to City View 4wd Park, just west of Beaudesert. Once we arrived we did what every good adventurer needs to do, set up a base camp. We then put our feet up around the campfire and visualised the previously planned shots.
The next day we rose early to meet the sunrise. We hadn't planned taking any shots that morning, but with the surrounding valley being filled with morning mist and magical light I couldn’t resist pulling the camera out and finding a track close to camp. The first (unexpected) shots turned out so great we were inspired for the planned shots later that day. After making our way back to camp, we put together a quick breakfast, grabbed all the gear we needed and then made our way over to our first scheduled location.
For the first location, our aim was a simple clean image showcasing the new ‘WK2 Nudge Bar’. We positioned the Jeep atop a sand stone coloured rocky peak and spent the next hour fine tuning the shot with different angles. When shooting outdoors it can be a challenge dealing with the natural elements, clouds, sun and shadows but I have learnt over time how to get the right amount of each to perfect the shot. This sometimes can be a waiting game when it comes to the nature.
Shot number two was positioned on a very tricky hill climb. It was impressive seeing the Jeep go wherever Bill pointed it. After some more cleaning and fine tuning, shot two was checked of the list.
The final shot for the day saw us venture all the way to one of the highest ridges at City View Park. The photo brief was to capture the Jeep traveling along a dirt track, exploring and experiencing the great outdoors at sunset. Finally, the perfect sunset arrived with the most magnificent colours casting golden hues across the trial. The natural light provided the opportunity to capture the warmth and vibrancy our adventure had. This ended up being one of the clients favourite images.
The weekend also provided a great opportunity to capture some lifestyle shots of the natural scenic surroundings and camping atmosphere to compliment the Chief Products brand. A great combination of earth coloured rocks and golden skies complimented the final images. Here are some of my favourites.
